Free Family Fun
We've had to get a little creative at our house finding fun things to do as a family, that cost us nothing. Here are some of the ideas that my girls really enjoy doing. Please share your ideas as well!
1. Feeding Geese- where we live there is a plentiful amount of geese to feed and the girls get such a kick out of it. Just bring some of your old bread, and it's entertaining to all.
2. Scavanger Hunt- We make up our own scavanger hunt cards, and use this to find a special prize at the end, or just the afternoon snack. It keeps the kids busy and thinking, and I get requests for this all the time. I just hide cards around the house (or outside weather permitting) that say somthing like, "The item you're seeking is not located here, go to the living room and check by the mirror." And then when they get to the mirror they'll be another note stating something like, "You've come this far, just a little ways to go. Go check the spot where we watch a television show." Then after the child has hunted all the clues, the final clue will bring them to the "prize" at the end of the hunt.
3. Picnic Indoors- This is a good one for bad weather days. We'll just set up a picnic blanket on the living room floor and eat our meal there.
4. Summer Movie In The Park- Most towns these days have started showing a movie in the park during the summer months. It's free to do, and the kids love to sit outside and watch the big screen!
5. Photo-Shoot- My girls love to get all dressed up in fancy hair and princess clothes for me to take their photo. You can make a big ordeal out of it with costume changes, and experimenting with poses. They enjoy being a Model.
6. Day at the Park- This is of course weather permitting, but during the summer weather a day at the park is just what the doctor ordered! Pack a picnic, bring some squirt guns, cameras, baskets to collect treasures and any other outdoor game. You can't go wrong here!
7. Winter Fun- Snowmen, sledding and fort building are the best snow day activities!
Having family fun on a budget
I'm always looking for ways to spend time as a family but don't always have money to do the things we would like,so I have come across some ways to do family activities that the kids love that don't have to cost a ton of money.
1. Family movie night (at home)- Redbox has movies for just $1.00, Walmart has movie candy for just $1.00 and then sometimes 3 for $1.00. Target has very cute popcorn containers for just $1.00 each as well, to make things extra festive for your movie night.
2.Family movie night out- Check your local theater because they may have discounted days or even shop around for the cheapest theater in your area. GKC is a movie theater in our area that does $1.00 popcorn and $1.00 drinks on Tuesdays. Also remember that matinee shows will always be cheaper than your eveing shows.
3.Chuckie Cheese- Every kid I know loves to go to Chuckie Cheese and they always have some great coupons on their website that you can print out. http://www.chuckecheese.com/company-info/employment.php In IL a family of 4 can get a large 1 to 2 topping pizza, 4 drinks and 40 game tokens for just 24.99
4.LegoLand Discovery Center/Chicago- Normal prices are Adult: $19.00,
Child: $15.00, and Children age 2 and under are free. That to me is crazy and I would never pay that, because I've been there and its not worth that price to get in. It was a fun place, new experience and worth checking out but only at a discount. Right now you can get in for 12.00 per person, and that's not too bad. I've also seen where you can get adults in for $10.00each and kids in for just $5.00 each.
5.Medieval Times- Through out the year they have promotions where you can get two people in for the price of one,or for every paying adult you can get a child in for free. If you submit your birthday you can get a free admission.
It's always a good idea to surg the web a little to find the best deals when your looking to do something with the family and save some money while doing it. Check out the website of where you want to go for printable coupons and promotions. Also a great website that tells you where the best deals are on anything and everything is http://slickdeals.org/ so check it out :)Now if you have any cool ideas for family outings on a budget that you have found please share!
